If it wasn't for the guides online I would literally have NO idea what's going on in game ... Like, what's the objective to the game anyway? I feel like I've just been running around fighting ridiculously hard enemies just to end up at another bonfire / boss fight..

I used the master key on a tower that went pretty far down, then I was destroyed by a giant, fat knight with a big ass club.

Yeah I'm avoiding the guides because I like to do things without walkthroughs etc, but there are points in this where I'm so lost I have no idea what to do, and end up fighting seemingly invincible creatures.

He actually not that hard, and he guards that door which is a nice shortcut. Later you can get Havel's armor, weapon, and shield. See my pic of it a few pages back..

I got destroyed because my health was already low. I didn't even get to fight back because I wasn't paying attention lol.

Ok here's my next lesson of shit that should have been explained but wasn't.
Equip Load - first off, you can see your equip load current/max in the stats screen. There are many different thresholds, having a higher equip load makes you move drastically slower.
Run and Roll Speed The roll and run speed of the player will vary with the amount of equipped weight.
Equip Weight above 100% of total Equip Load leaves the player unable to roll and run. Trying to roll or backstep at this weight will stun the character. Equip weight above 50% and up to 100% of Equip Load gives slow movement, and causes the player to 'fat roll'. Equip weight above 25% and up to 50% of Equip Load gives medium movement. There are also two different speeds to medium rolls, above and below 37.5%. Equip weight equal to and below 25% of Equip Load gives fast movement. Equip weight below 25% also has 4 individual speeds: The fastest speed is achieved at 0% equip. The only weapons with no weight are Dragon Body and the Pyromancy Flame. The other speed ranges are from 0.1% to 8.3%, 8.4% to 16.6%, and 16.7% to 25%.
Stamina Regeneration Your Encumbrance Level (0%, 25%, and 50%) and armor also affects the speed of your stamina regeneration. With higher Encumbrance Levels, your stamina regeneration is reduced.
Regardless of weapons or armor, regeneration is reduced at >50% and >100% encumbrance. With no other affecting items, regeneration is: At 50-100%: -20% from normal At >100%: -30.5% from normal Heavy armor like Havel's Set, Smough's Set, and Stone Knight Set impede stamina regeneration at all encumbrance levels to some degree. At 0-25%: -10.5% from normal At 25-50%: -10.5% from normal At 50-100%: -28.5% from normal At >100%: -36.5% from normal Some armors like the Steel Set also affect stamina regeneration at all encumbrance levels, but slightly less so than the heavy armors. At 0-25%: -9.5% from normal At 25-50%: -9.5% from normal At 50-100%: -27.5% from normal Other armors (mostly light, but also medium like Silver Knight Set) do not reduce regeneration themselves. Regeneration is still reduced like normal at >50% and >100% encumbrance.
-CO OP-- To do co op the helping player (phantom) must use the white soapstone, acquired from solair of astoria, to place down a sign saying he's looking to do co op. The host player must then become human (unhollowed) to see the sign in his world. To become unhollowed the host must have at least 1 humanity. (The number in top left corner, eat a humanity item to increase it) Once your humanity is at least 1 go to any bonfire and select "reverse hollowing," then I think finding and clicking on the phantom's sign will bring him into the host's world.
Progress is only saved for the host but the phantom (helper) still gets souls.

Also, since all you guys are playing the pre-patched version it is harder. Enemies have more health, do more damage, and drop less souls in this version but there are some OP items. You might want to wait till they fix it, but still d/l it now because soon you won't be able too.

Hey guys I know most of you have moved on from this game but the free version has finally been patched and full online functionality has finally returned! That means I can now co op with anyone and help you past anything. My level is 22 so I can help anyone from about 12-32.
Also if you were struggling before read my last post about the patch. It does make the game noticeably easier and gives way more souls/drops.
I just finished my first jolly cooperation with some noob. I helped him clear the whole parish. It was awesome. Got 5000 souls too.
