One of the many reasons why I signed up here is because of the discussion of "roleplaying" that comes up every once in awhile. I was thinking that we should discuss it and maybe plan something out.
I remember playing Red Dead Redemption and roleplaying with about 8-10 people, which can be a lot of fun if everyone plays along with the rules, stays in character, and it doesn't turn into a huge old killing fest. This may sound lame/cheesy/below you to some of you, but RPing can be a lot of fun no matter what your age is and it isn't as bad as it sounds. GTA:SA Online has a whole dedication to roleplaying, with forums, private servers, and all that. That's one of the biggest reasons people still play that game.
When I did Red Dead roleplaying, it was really sloppily planned out but a lot of fun. We had sheriffs, shop clerks, bad guys, citizens, ranchers, etc. I dont know how we'd do a currency system, but it is possible with a lot of organizing and honesty.
Please discuss this here: Would you be willing to try it sometime? Do you have any ideas for roleplaying themes? Do you have any experiences to share or advice to give for it?
If you have any questions or anything, please comment, your input matters on such a small forum like this!
(apologies if I posted this in the wrong place)

We are (trying to) do this gtaonlinefamilies.webs.com/That's role playing right? We chose a territory and choose a compound then other mob families that want our territory have to take over our compound, I think. And there are rules to fighting.

Yeah, that is a kind of roleplaying, we'll see what others have to say.

I would try to do roleplaying sessions but I don't want to organize it, Count me in as a player for sure though.

We'll have to wait till we have way more members on the forums in order to organize it. I'll hound all the members on x-box to register.

If it's properly organized it can be really fun. Played for a clan called Rollin' Patrol many years ago.

Can you explain this? Like what role do you play? In red dead?

There was this server in GTA:SA:MP where there were different factions. These factions were the police, military, different mafias and gang's. You were able to join these factions and you played out the role as the faction you joined. If you e.g. were a part of the police you would drive around and patrol, maybe pull someone over and you would then act out a routine check. So you would act out the role of a certain factions. Underneath these factions there were jobs you could join, like being a taxi driver, ambulance driver, fisherman, etc. Then there would obviously be rivalries between the gangs and mafias, which all usually were quite hostile to the police.
My role in this universe was the Russian Mafia's leader's right hand. My role would usually be giving orders to members below my rank. This could be picking up 'protection' money from assets. I was also the lead recruiter and handled promotions, so I would arrange various tests for the people wanting to join (they would fill in an application at the forums), and promoting people who had been doing a good job. Other from dealing with members below my rank, I would eat dinner with some people from the police force, giving them 'job oppertunities' as informants.
The beauty of this world was that it was not 100 % serious all the time, there were also time for fun and games, like racing around, arranging road trips, deathmatch competitions, and so forth.
Hope this answered your question.

I've already set us up on the website. When I have time, I will start appointing people with "Mob" rank positions and etc...

Hope this answered your question. My brother does this all the time. But you are right. Unfortunately, we don't have the ability to modify servers like they can GTA:SAMP. @vipr, Pretty much what Kenny said. The role I played in Red Dead was a shop clerk I believe. I would watch over the shop, people would come in and buy things, and if anyone gave me problems I'd go to the sheriff. It can be a lot of fun if you have a good role, like the sheriff or a criminal. You have to stick to character though over the mic, that's where the "roleplaying" part comes in. Since we have a lot of outfits in GTA, we might as well dress as our roles too. I hope that was clear. Obviously, like I said to Kenny, big roleplaying games have big servers with lots of mods on to make the RPing more fun, unfortunately GTAV does not. I'm not talking about JUST role playing amongst other crews like with mob wars, I was talking about it amongst ourselves also, kinda like how we do death matches and races we can also do RPing.

Sounds look a pretty cool idea to me! I've created and participated in many RPG websites (text-based) based around things such as Mafia, Law & Order, Saw, Avatar, and other Sci-Fi RPGs. I find them to be very fun.
Count me in!

We should start talking about this again. I think proper roleplaying is possible now. We have the numbers, but we may not have the commitment.
