Actually for scaling weapons this is how it works:  Also, for shields the attack rating is basically useless, you want to look at stability (how much stamina is used to block) and percent it blocks (physical/magic/fire/lightening.) |

Figured that, most people do. It's ok because usually a higher attack means higher defense too. You want the stability as high as possible to use less stamina while blocking attacks, and a shield that blocks 100% physical damage. Then you can have other shields that resist magic/fire/lightening better. For example for that dumb ass moonlight butterfly you would use a high magic resistant shield, and for quelaag a fire shield and for the 2 in Anor Londo a lightening one. Also, great shields cannot parry and you need to parry the final boss of the game.  |
