Look it up, from what I remember at first stage of covenant it's just your head that turns dragon, but you can breath fire. After you do something your body becomes dragon too.

Maybe you thought New Londo was hard because you can't damage the ghosts there at all unless you're cursed. The sewer merchant sells a transient curse witch doesn't half health and the ghosts drop them a lot.

I did damage them. I took a 1 minute break by a ledge and the ghosts came out of nowhere and raped me. They came up from the abyss below!
