To my esteemed collegues, friends, family: I wanted to express the gratitude I have in each and every one of you that takes personal pride in wearing the VCCM tag. I have been watching for awhile now to see how you interact with each other and I must say that I am surprised at the level of community we have here in VCCM. So much so, that it surprises me how far someone will go to help another out in which I usually pale in comparison. To that I personally want to strive to be a better person because of it. I have never seen a more committed group than we have here and I would like it to stay that way for the long haul.
Back since online gaming had first started, I've been in my share of clans, guilds, groups, mobs, and recently crews, with their initial formation during the Quake 1 & 2, Ultima, and Unreal years. I have seen them come and go and to be quite honest, I never liked being a part in any of them for very long. I even groaned at using a forum for one, but I've come to change my opinion in the days since submitting my own application here back in March. I have finally seen how well these gaming groups can function with the right people and the right attitude toward community (and those outside of it) and you have no one to thank for it but yourselves as you are the ones that make that possible.
Now, we've had our ups and downs with rapid growth and the growing pains that go with it, as well as with members leaving, or even disputes amongst each other for whatever reason, but our community here has always bounced back and has always been able to handle these things with a surprising level of maturity and professionalism from some of our members. I give special thanks to our PS3 community that has suffered loss of respected leaders and have managed to show a great deal of maturity and compassion towards even those that wrong them. Your group is impressive and I don't even know what to say other than how awesome it is to see that.
Currently, our gamestate may seem somewhat lacking in activity since we are currently waiting for new content or simply evening out the influx of both new players to the game as well as the crew. This is totally untrue if you participate actively on the forums. There are still so many activities that are being run between the Motorsports Club, Sunday and weekly activites, and general crew activities that it astounds me when someone says they can't find someone to play with. Use these forums and find some friends here at VCCM; I can't stress that enough! It is important you do so because this crew is going to be worth to you as much as you invest into it. There are several ways to connect to people here and the best way I've found is to join games and sessions with your leaders and representatives. They are just like you and are always open to play... well, maybe not Rooftop Rumble, but you get the jist.
To remain a fruitful community we need to work together to keep it a welcome place for those to play together. Being mindful how you speak to each other in any form of communication is a must and a constant flaw that even I am guilty of. Reading and following the very few and very essential rules we have is also important. Coming to us with issues regarding crew killing, cheating, or what have you is also important as a simple private message to any one of the leaders, myself included, will help us resolve any personal issues. We take personal stakes in our crew and we want to maintain and care for it so that we can be proud of our community here at VCCM. Believe me, talking to Big Notch, Kennie, Knapptime, Welly, Vikoon, Vipr, and any other member of our 'staff' is easier than you think it is. Contact us: we're more than willing to help if there's a dispute that can't be resolved on its own.
This is long-winded, I know. I'm almost done.
I bring all of this up because we're looking at a very bright future ahead of us. Big Notch has been working very, very hard to bring the next phase of VCCM to light. He's given us details and hints as to whats to come with ViceGamers.com. I won't go into too much more about it since I want him to get the chance to share his vision, but I for one think this will be a great platform to expand our community into other games and consoles (PC included, yay!). VCCM will continue as well since we are anxiously waiting for the "actual" versions of GTA for next-gen consoles and PC. Several of us are getting ready to facilitate these changes and I can't wait to see what happens in the near future!
With all of this to consider, I want to stress that our community is going to be in a state of transition (with a little chaos to boot) and we must continue to do that which makes us great here at VCCM which will help our family grow. Following the rules and fostering friendly gameplay between each other and those outside our group will not only keep our crew healthy, but it will be a nice place for YOU to come and play as well. Again, this crew and our future clan are all a product of what you want to put into it. Trust me, it won't go far with a negative player-base. It all starts and ends with you.
In closing, I want to re-emphasize how awesome you guys are and how great our community is here. I want us to continue onward to the future with our expansion; keeping our same values and improving on them so that we can invite others to wonder what makes us so great. Perhaps that curiosity will expand us to new areas (and perhaps make you some new friends). Keep us heading forward and get ready, because VCCM is only just the start!
